About Cold Weather Installation
Auto glass installers must consider outside temperatures when determining safe drive-away times after repairing or replacing auto glass. One-part glues require moisture to cure. Lower temperatures and humidity require more time for the urethane to reach strengths capable of passing applicable standards. Your auto glass installer should tell you how much time is required before you can safely drive away.

Gopher AutoGlass uses Essex and Sika urethane products for all glass installations. Both Essex and Sika manufacture urethane which allows for a safe installation at zero degrees and warmer with a one hour drive away time.

Your installer should use a two part urethane or a one-step beta seal glue when temperatures drop below 40 degrees Fahrenheit. Vehicles equipped with air bags require additional time to cure to allow the glue to reach a strength of at least 150 psi. Some automobile manufacturers require higher strengths prior to releasing the vehicle. Ask your auto glass installer how much time is needed for curing.
